Rescue animals are endless sources of love and devotion. Bringing an animal in need of a home into your family is often one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. If you are considering adopting a dog near Detroit (or even fostering a dog), here are a few of the great rescues and organizations that can help you find your perfect pup.

A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue

A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) specializing in dog and cat rescue. They are a no-kill foster-based cat and dog rescue. They take in the sick, unwanted, aggressive, abandoned, abused and neglected animals and work with foster homes to rehabilitate the animals and show them what it is like to be loved again. All animals stay with a family until they find their forever homes rather than stay in kennels.

Detroit Dog Rescue

Another great rescue serving the Detroit area, Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR) houses 80-120 dogs at any given time. With regular adoption events throughout the city, they make it easy to visit dogs in need of a good home. DDR was founded in 2011 after the City of Detroit refused to permit a television crew to create a documentary about the lives of stray dogs in the area. This rescue is committed to helping homeless and abused dogs find a loving family. Your next dog might be ready and waiting for you in their shelter.

Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit

This stellar organization focuses on making true connections between animals and the people looking to adopt them. With a new, beautiful facility located in Dearborn, Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit gives rescue dogs a comfortable and safe place to stay on their way to their forever homes. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has worked tirelessly for the past 23 years to find homes for as many animals in need as possible. Michigan Animal Rescue League

The Michigan Animal Rescue League believes that all shelter pets should have access to medical care, love, attention, socialization, and exercise while they wait for their forever homes. Established in 1953, this non-profit shelter works hard to ensure that pets are ready for their new families from the second they spot one another. Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet AdoptionCenter

The Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center offers housing and medical care to more than 4,000 pets each year. With a facility built in 2017, they are able to offer cutting edge technology with compassionate care for animals in need to prepare them for their forever homes. 90% of the animals they house are either united with their families or adopted, and they have plenty of dogs and puppies looking for their families. You can schedule adoption appointments Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you aren’t sure if you are completely ready to adopt, they are also always looking for good volunteers and fosters.
