If the above statements sound like you, rest assured you’re not alone. According to a survey by pet-sitting service DogVacay, more than 75 percent of people would rather be with their pet on Valentine’s Day than with a significant other!
A Rover.com survey found that 25% of devoted dog people spend more money on things for their dog than for their significant other. 47% cuddle with their dog more often than their partner. That same number say they plan a Valentine’s Day celebration for their dog.

The reasons to spend the evening with your pet on Valentine’s Day are practically limitless, but we’ve outlined our top five:
- No talking – Thanks to your pet’s lack of verbal language skills, you never have to worry about awkward small talk, uncomfortable silences, arguments over politics or where to go for dinner.
- Separate snacks – Although your pet may eye your bowl of ice cream or bag of Cheetos with longing, you are under no obligation to share. Many types of people food can be toxic to pets, so you’re actually doing your pet a favor by keeping those snacks all to yourself.
- Low (or no) expectations – One of the best things about pets is that they don’t care what we look like, where we live, how much money we make, or what type of car (or lack thereof) we drive. Still wearing yesterday’s marinara-stained shirt? No problem. Haven’t showered in 3 days? Your pet doesn’t mind. All out of money and eating ramen for the next week? Pets aren’t interested. Talk about the perfect date!
- Cheap date – One of the nicest things about being with your pet on Valentine’s Day is that you can spend as much or as little money as you like and your pet will never complain…all he or she wants is to be with you!
- Lots of snuggles – There’s no doubt that snuggles from a significant other can be wonderful, but there’s just something special about time spent curled up with the four-legged friend who loves you unconditionally.
