Oakland Veterinary Referral Services Welcomes New Pet Care Clients

Many patients are referred to an Oakland Veterinary Referral Services specialist by their regular veterinarian or by an emergency clinic. To schedule an appointment with one of our many board-certified specialists, please call (248) 334-6877 to speak with one of our courteous receptionists. They would be delighted to assist you in scheduling a convenient and timely consultation with one of our doctors.

Appointments are NOT necessary to come in through the Oakland Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Service, which is conveniently staffed 24 hours a day by a team of experienced emergency veterinarians (even during holidays, weeknights and weekends) to attend to your pet's emergency conditions and situations.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

Please plan on arriving 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time in order to provide us with pertinent information regarding you and your pet. For your convenience you may fill out the Standard Consent Form in advance, and bring the completed form with you to your appointment. Furthermore, be sure to bring along any other relevant information about your pet's condition, such as a Referral Form (which is to be filled out by your regular veterinarian), all recent blood work and radiographs, as well as a list of the medication(s) and food your pet is currently receiving.

Please be aware that your pet may need to be fasted (not fed) prior to the scheduled appointment time. Fasting not only increases the accuracy of certain blood tests but also is necessary for all procedures performed under sedation or general anesthesia. Our receptionists will give you the fasting instructions and any other important information you may need when they call to confirm your appointment.

Your Appointment

Once you arrive for your consultation appointment, our receptionists will present you with forms that will provide us with your contact information and your pet's pertinent history. When your pet is taken into an Examination Room, the doctor's technical staff obtains a brief history from you and records your pet's weight and other vital signs. Once the doctor performs a thorough physical exam of your pet and has reviewed the prior diagnostics performed at your family veterinarian's office, he or she will explain the diagnostic and treatment options available for your pet. A customized, detailed treatment plan outlining cost will be presented for review and we will acquire your consent prior to performing any extensive diagnostic tests or treatments. Please plan to spend about an hour for your initial consultation appointment and about half an hour for your recheck appointments.

Whenever possible, please give us 24 hours notice if you are not able to keep your appointment. Our receptionists are available 7am - 1am every day of the week to assist you in rescheduling your appointment.

Payment Policy

Payment is required at the time of services. If you are leaving your pet for further diagnostics, treatments or surgery, a deposit of one half of the low end of the estimate may be required. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and CareCredit®.
